In her 94 years, June Walsh Gibney enthusiastically enjoyed family, fashion and travel. Born and raised in New York City to John and Ellen Walsh, she was educated in public schools and graduated from NYU. June - Junior to her siblings - remained lifelong best friends with her big sisters, the late Ellen Sagarese and Vivian Cullen. In 1942 she married the love of her life, Raymond Gibney, a tank corps officer who would make the military his career. They spent the next 65 years in a variety of Army postings and, in retirement, on the senior tennis circuit. June loved the travel, Ray loved the tennis and they both loved being with one another. Despite Ray's passing in 2007, she found pleasure every day through her love of reading, movies and the activities of her children and grandchildren. Her last conversation - typical of her thoughtful nature - was a discussion of the depiction of Eleanor Roosevelt in a recent documentary. June's resilience, good humor and sense of style were an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by daughter Hilary Farbrother, son and his wife, Terrence and Meghan Gibney, and daughter and her husband, Ellen and Charles Peppler. June was predeceased by grandson Kellen Gibney and will be greatly missed by grandchildren John (Samantha Sanders) Farbrother, Laura (Sonja) Rogneby, Graham (Heather Robertson) Farbrother, Andrew, Terrence and Brendan Peppler, Alexandra (Will Siegrist) Gibney, Mathew (Jill) Morgan, Monica Morgan, and great-grandchildren Kellin, Elijah, Dashiell, Beryl, Dexter. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 10:00 am until service time at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton will be at 2:30 pm.
