Karen D. Wilkes, 73, of McDonough, formerly of Avondale, passed away suddenly on Sunday July 5, 2015. After graduating from Avondale High School, Karen attended business school then worked as an Administrative Secretary, and later moved on to real estate. After her retirement, Gangan, as many of us called her, devoted her time to her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending her mornings with her husband, Reg, reading, watching Dancing with the Stars, and also loved music; especially Elvis and Zac Brown Band. Preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen Wilkes; She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Reg Wilkes; children, Stephanie Shulenberger-Joseph, Kimberly Mize, Angela Kitchens, Matthew Wilkes, Betsy Eckles; grandchildren, Kara, Kyle, Kaci, Kelly Brent, Kati, Chase and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Jansen and Kaydence; sister, Judy Creech; brother, David Duke and other nieces/nephews and many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Henry County Library. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 12, in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
