Katharine "Kathy" Heath Woods, 65, of Decatur, GA, passed away early Monday, May 25, 2015, at her home in Coventry Place. Her children, Ashley & Chris Feddern, were by her side.
Kathy was born to Katharine and Dudley LS Woods Jr. on January 9, 1950 at John Hopkins Memorial in Baltimore City, MD. She grew up in Charlotte, NC, where she attended Myers Park High School as well as a member of Avondale Presbyterian Church. She was the oldest of six children & proudly wore the title of big sister.
She relocated to Stone Mountain, GA in the summer of 1978, with her former husband & two small children. From this point forward she would call Georgia her home. Throughout her work career, prior to returning to college, she was employed by Emory University, Honeywell, Lithonia Lightning, and Lightnin' Truck & Movie Productions. Kathy would return to school to receive her Bachelors of Arts in 1994 and her Masters of Arts in Teaching in 1996 from Agnes Scott College. She was a retired employee of Dekalb County School System from 1995-2013. She taught IB/Gifted/AP English and was Nationally Board Certified at MLK High School from 2001-2013 as well as started the International Travel Club.
Kathy was an active member of Lithonia Presbyterian Church from 1978-2000 & Columbia Presbyterian Church from 2000-2015. She was passionate about women's club, hand bells, & choir and was a active member of Circle 5 for 35 years. She was a dedicated volunteer at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries for 30 years; and held a Lifetime Achievement Award for her years of service with the Girl Scouts. Her joys in life were her family, teaching, travel, reading, theater, music, and going to the movies.
She is survived by her children, Ashley Feddern of Decatur, GA and Chris Feddern of Cumming, GA; ex-husband/friend, Richard Feddern of Cumming, GA; grand-children, Keirsten Feddern & Elise Chambers of Hampton, GA; sisters Helen Woods of Decatur, GA; and Page Woods of Charlotte, NC; and brother/sister-n-law Larry & Beth Woods of Collinswood, Ill; nieces and nephews, numerous friends, and her students aka "her babies". She was preceded in death by her parents Katharine and Dudley LS Woods and her sisters Sarah & Nancy Woods.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015, at 3 pm at Columbia Presbyterian Church, officiated by Tom Hagood. Her final resting place will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, in Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Clifton Sanctuary Ministries http://www.cliftonsanctuary.com/
Her family will receive visitors on May 30, from 6-8 at AS Turner & Sons.
