Katherine M. Swint

Katherine Eoline Moon Swint, 89, wife of the late Jesse Taylor Swint, of Decatur died Monday, September 17, 2007. They were both natives of Columbus, GA but have spent their working years in Decatur, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Jacob Clinton Moon and Virginia Woolfolk Moon; and her sister, Elizabeth Moon Fersen. She is survived by a daughter, Merry Katherine Swint DeSimone, wife of Edmond DeSimone and their son, Edmond Taylor DeSimone of Atlanta; siblings, Richard Allen Moon of Seale, AL, Mrs. Virginia Mitchell of Canton, GA and Mrs. Marianne Pancoe of Virginia. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Paul Clinton Fersen, Virginia Pancoe, Mike Mitchell, Joan Martin, Ruben Swint, Emmett Swint and Beth Bimber. Mrs. Swint has been a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church, Decatur, where she and her husband served consistently in leadership positions for over 60 years. Mrs. Swint was by profession a librarian having studied at Bessie Tift College, Oglethorpe University, Emory University and Peabody Library School in Nashville, TN. She served in library positions in schools in Gwinnett, Fulton and City of Decatur, then as catalog librarian at Agnes Scott College. She retired in 1982 from Georgia Department of Education as Technical Services Librarian of Reader Services Library, headquarters for State Library Services. She also organized the Oakhurst Baptist Church library. Mrs. Swint frequently preformed as a soprano soloist and wrote poetry as a hobby. Funeral services will be held at Oakhurst Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 20th, Dr. Lanny Peters and Rev. John Nichol officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery. Those desiring may send contributions in her memory to the Oakhurst Baptist Church Building Fund or to Hospice Atlanta. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons
