Katherine Upshaw Walker

Mrs. Katherine Upshaw Walker, of Decatur, Georgia, entered into God’s care on January 27, 2018 at The Bridge of Lawrenceville. Katherine was born on July 1, 1922 in Decatur, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Nellie Andrews Upshaw and George Forrest Upshaw. Katherine is preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Ray Bradford Walker.

Katherine was a lifetime resident of Decatur, graduated from Decatur Girls High and Draughon School of Business. She worked for Sears and Roebuck in downtown Atlanta for several years. She was a member of Avondale-Pattillo United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school in the children’s department for 30 years. She also taught at Oak Grove United Methodist Church preschool for 22 years. Katherine was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group at Avondale-Pattillo, the Scott Sunday Class, and the Yaarab Temple U. & W. Social Club. She loved cooking & baking, and did catering for her family and friends.

Katherine’s family includes: Son Richard A. Walker Sr., wife Mary, sons Richard Jr. and Ryan of Lawrenceville, Ga. Daughter Gayle W. Lundy, son Steven, wife Misty, daughter Shelby, son Brice of Snellville Ga. daughter Jennifer L. Mierzejewski, son Taylor, daughter Madeleine of Pendergrass, Ga. Son, Robert (Bob) Walker, wife Jan, son Jason, wife Katharine, daughter Elle. Son Justin, daughter Robyn, husband Michael, son Sawyer of Piedmont, S.C.
Son, Scott D. Walker, wife Traci of Roswell, Ga.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 30 from 6-8 PM at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, Ga.
The graveside service at the Decatur Cemetery will be held on Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00 A.M.
