Kathryn Grant Brookshire (lovingly called Babe by family), 90, went home on November 15, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Luke Brookshire in 1947, her son, Phillip Eugene Brookshire and her daughter, Patricia Ann Nall. She was born on a farm in still-rural Tucker GA, buying her duplex home in Candler Park in 1959 where she resided until her passing. She was recognized by the Atlanta Journal as Atlanta's first lady car "jockey" (parking cars downtown) in 1955. Kathryn worked also in the canning and box factories in Atlanta, ending her working life as an in-home childcare provider. She was an avid voter with a political and schoolgirl-like interest in Bill Clinton, whom she finally met in 2007 at John Lewis' house. Kathryn was also a devoted golf spectator (with a crush on Phil Mickelson!), passionate Days of Our Lives viewer, and pickle-maker/southern cook extraordinaire. She will be missed by her relatives, by her friends and neighbors used to her sitting on the front porch throughout the years "holding the world together", by her wonderful caregivers, and especially by her beloved and devoted honorary granddaughter Amanda Brooks Decker and her children, who brought Kathryn (as "Nanny") so much happiness in her later years.
