Our dearest Kathryn Franta Fason (also known as "Kaye"), precious mother, grandmother, and friend, went peacefully to be with her Father in Heaven, on November 29, 2010. Born November 6, 1914, Kathryn grew up in the small town of Mahnomen, Minnesota, where her father (Dr. Valentine A. Franta) was the dentist and mayor for over 35 years, and her mother (Etta Gertrude Richter) taught piano and organ. Kathryn was the eldest of three children. After graduating from Mahnomen High School, she later attended North Dakota State in Grand Forks, N.D. before graduating with a B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Mn. While living in Miami, Florida and working as a registered hospital dietitian, she met Navy Ensign, Thomas M. Fason, from Aliceville, Alabama. They were married on June 29, 1946. Kaye and Tom spent the majority of their married years raising their five children in Knoxville, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. As a wonderfully involved mother and wife, Kaye cared for her family with a love that was so reflective of her personal creativity as an artist and homemaker. She was an active member of Church Street United Methodist, Knoxville, Tn., and a long time member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church, Chamblee, Ga., where she sacrificially gave of her time and talents as floral arranger, volunteer, and much more to the glory of God. Kaye belonged to numerous organizations including United Methodist Women, Pine Island Garden Club, National Garden Clubs, Inc., and The Iris Society. She was a credentialed Georgia Flower Show Master Judge, and a member of the Designers Club. Kaye enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, playing the piano, organ, accordion and harp. She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. and Mrs. Valentine A. Franta, her beloved husband, Thomas Marion Fason; son Paul Valentine Fason and brother Paul Donald Franta. Kaye is survived by her brother James Franta; her children: Sheila Salyer and husband James, Mona Hovelsrud and her husband Jeffery, Garrick Fason, and Joy Roper and her husband Jim; grandchildren Jordan Roper Giager and James Roper; Blake and Brett Fason. Kaye leaves her love of beautiful White Earth Lake, in Minnesota, as a legacy for her children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 at Embry Hills United Methodist Church, in Chamblee. Rev. Elaine Puckett will officiate. Private interment will be held at Community Cemetery, Mahnomen, Minnesota. Donations welcomed to Embry Hills United Methodist Church for "Missions and Ministry". A. S. Turner & Sons
