Kathryn Galvin Schlossstein died Sunday morning at DeKalb Medical Center from complications of heart disease. Mrs. Schlossstein was the widow of Carl E. Schlossstein, Inspector General for the United States Department of Agriculture. She served as President of the Avondale Estates Woman's Club for two terms and on the Woman's Club Board thereafter. Mrs. Schlossstein was born in Springfield, Ohio where she grew up. She attended Wittenberg Academy there and later worked for Rubsom's, a division of the New York Stock Exchange in Columbus, Ohio. She also worked for the State of Ohio in the Auditor's Office prior to her marriage. After she and her husband moved to Avondale Estates, they joined the Community Club there where she gained the reputation of "the best cook in Avondale." She leaves two daughters, Mrs. John Suerken of Blue Water Bay, Florida and Ms. Sallie Schlossstein of Avondale Estates, and one granddaughter, Ms. Cynthia Kathryn Suerken, a statistician of some note, of Winston Salem, North Carolina. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:30PM to 7:30PM Wednesday, June 29 at A.S. Turner & Sons. Funeral services to follow at A.S. Turners & Sons.
