Kathryn H. McCabe, long-time resident of Avondale Estates, GA, passed away December 8 just a month short of her 101st birthday. Her personality and mind were sharp to the end, but as she put it recently “Old age is not easy”. She passed away quietly in her sleep while recovering from a respiratory infection and pneumonia.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur, GA on Friday, January 4th at 10:30am.
For the past five years, Kathy lived near her daughter in Birmingham, MI, after the passing of her husband Joe.
Kathy was born Kathryn Ruth Howell in Big Sandy, TX. She met and married her husband Joe in New Orleans, his hometown, in the late 1940’s after his WWII service in the US Navy. They lived in New Orleans, Chicago, Maryland, and Savannah before settling in Avondale Estates where they raised their four children. After retiring from a part-time job at Macy’s, Kathy enjoyed socializing with her friends over games of bridge and in the Avondale Garden Club. She read a paper daily to keep up with the news, and her Kindle was always nearby.
Mrs. McCabe is survived by her daughter Pam Burkhart and by her sons Robert, Joe and Patrick; sons-in-law Quint Burkhart and Barry Cazaubon, daughters-in-law Anne McCabe and Dara McCabe; grandchildren Marisa Bradford, Josh McCabe, Kimberly Turner, and Jordan Pethel; six great-grandchildren Caleb, Noah, Brylee Anne, Easton, Elijah and Everly; and dear friends Joan Lass and Sarah Zimny.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
