Kelly Diane Dixon Watts died Wednesday, September 7, 2016. She was a gentle soul, with a feisty spirit, and an exceptional mind. She threw amazing birthday parties. She loved her family. She was so beautiful that you might be surprised to find that you were talking to a brilliant scientist. She could make ordinary things beautiful, and she did that wherever she went.
Kelly earned her Bachelor of Science at Birmingham-Southern College in 1998. She went on to earn a Master of Experimental Neuropsychopharmacology at George Mason University in 2001 and a Master of Neuroscience at Emory University 2010. She continued her work at Emory in research related to Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative diseases.
Kelly is survived by her husband, Robert Clay Watts, and by her three boys, Sullivan, Harrison, and Mitchell. She is survived by her mother, Dee Kelly, and her father, Mike Dixon; three sisters Terri Gorman, Kristi Crawford, and Johanna Mackie; and nieces and nephews - Kirby Lane, Reynolds, Yates, Declan, Gretta, Callaway, Brinleigh, Ginny and Theo.
Kelly's funeral will be held on Saturday, September 10, at 2:00 pm at Burt Funeral Home, 7934 County Road 137, Valley Head, Alabama. Visitation with the family will begin at 1pm.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 13 at Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 East Ponce De Leon Avenue, Decatur, Georgia. The service will begin at 7pm, with the family receiving visitors beginning at 6pm.
