Ken Massingale, 84, of Decatur passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017. Born April 12, 1933 in Athens, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Houston Henry and Nettie Blackwell Massingale. Ken graduated from Russell High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Georgia State University in 1965. He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve and 2 years in the U.S. Army. Ken was a Boy Scout leader, and a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur, the DeKalb County Jaycees, and the Decatur Lions Club, as well as a Lions Club District Governor and a President of the GA Lions Lighthouse Foundation. After serving many years, Ken retired from GDOT.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Harvey, Bill and Marvin; and stepmother, Bertha Seay Massingale.
He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Eugenia "Genie" W. Massingale; son, Stephen Massingale and his wife, Yoko; grandchildren, Joshua and Kristen Massingale; brother, Nelson W. Massingale and his wife, Mary Ann; and many more loving family and friends.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. with funeral services at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 3, in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons with interment to follow at Melwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lions Clubs International Foundation, the First Baptist Church of Decatur or a charity of your choice.
