Richard Kenneth Cheek

July 16, 1941 - August 10, 2021

Richard Kenneth Cheek, a mentor to many, and a friend to all, passed away peacefully August 10, 2021 in Flowery Branch, GA, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Born July 16, 1941 in Atlanta, GA to Homer Lee and Grace Chewning Cheek, Kenneth lived a life of great faith from beginning to end. Kenneth is survived by his wife Sandra Litchfield Cheek, sons Scott Cheek (Laura) and Ryan Cheek, daughter Sharon Ballew (Jim), grandsons Garrett Ballew, Bo Cheek and Michael Cheek and granddaughters Amanda Cheek, Summer Cheek, Chelsea Ballew (Noah) and Lila Grace Cheek. Kenneth ‘Poppy’ and Sandi ‘Punchy’ were happily married for nearly 60 years!

Kenneth worked as the Clerk of the State Court for DeKalb County for 30 years, where he ultimately retired. Kenneth’s work ethic and devotion to his job are just a couple of things that he passed on to his family and those that were fortunate enough to know him.

Kenneth dearly loved his family, friends and those he worked alongside. He was happiest doing for others. Kenneth always put others first. He loved spending time on Lake Lanier, working on projects with friends and watching his grandchildren do absolutely anything.

Kenneth will be remembered for his entertaining stories, his generous smile, his unfailing work ethic and his willingness to come at any time to help a family member or neighbor in need.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his family and friends that loved him so very much.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
