In loving memory and celebration of the life of Kenneth Michael "Mike" Pennington, born on August 19, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, who passed away after a long illness on June 8, 2024, in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Michael was a beloved husband to Annette Pennington and a devoted father to his son, Brett Pennington. An avid lover of the outdoors, Mike embraced life with a passion for road trips, scuba diving, hiking, boating, swimming, gardening, and bird watching. His adventurous spirit led him to explore caves through spelunking and the depths of the sea while scuba diving. Mike was a talented weight lifter in high school, wrestler, track enthusiast and football player. He was a true animal lover, cherishing and spoiling his many white German Shepherds, all descended from their first Shepherd, Shadow. An amateur chef, he also found joy in cooking and mastering the art of culinary delights. He was a great world history buff, and enjoyed retelling stories of countries, kings and battles.
With a profound love for computers and a knack for tinkering around the house, Mike pursued a career in computer/software system sales. He owned the very first, and one of the largest, computer software stores in South Carolina. He was a proud Navy veteran who served with Annette in Hawaii from 1968 to 1972.
Mike is also survived by his loving sister, Patricia Pennington; nephew, Michael O'Neill; nieces, Emily Chevalier, Heidi Von Itter and Amy Von Itter; and great-nieces and nephews, Adeline, Luke, Bella, Zac, Thaddeus, Liam, Bailey, Oscar, Isaac and Dillon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thaddeus and Emily (Beatty) Pennington and parents-in-law, Ralph and Irene King.
Please join us in honoring Michael's life on Saturday June 15, 2024 at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker.
