Kenny Lamar Beavers

January 21, 1948 — February 5, 2008

Kenny Lamar Beavers died peacefully in his sleep on February 5, 2008 after a fierce battle with lung cancer.  He was born to Jean and the late Dewey Beavers on January 21, 1948 in Rome, Ga.  His family moved to Phenix City, AL as a small child.  He graduated from Smith Station High School and attended Columbus College.  Ken started a long and fulfilling career with Lithonia Lighting in 1969.  He managed various departments during his tenure, but was always ready to move to the next analytical adventure as opportunities presented themselves.  His passion for reading and technology served a twofold purpose in expanding his breadth of knowledge while keeping Lithonia on the cutting edge in the lighting industry. An avid cyclist, Ken often biked 30-40 miles on area trails during warm weather and worked out in the gym to further serve his cycling needs. His appreciation for all cultures led him to frequently sample various foods. Ken was a longtime member of St. John the Wonderworker Orthodox Church where he served as Treasurer for a number of years.  He is survived by his mother Jean Beavers of Phenix City, AL; his daughter Vanessa Spencer (Aaron) of Conyers, GA; his wife Valerie McCray Beavers; his stepson Kaiser McCray, stepdaughter Victoria McCray all of Decatur, GA; his three grandchildren Kenneth, Justin, and Luke Spencer of Conyers, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, February 9th at St. John the Wonderworker Orthodox Church with Father Jacob Myers officiating.  Interment will be at Kennedy Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
