Koan-Da Chang
Mr. Koan-Da Chang was born to Mr. & Mrs. Tsou Chuan Chang on October 1, 1934 in Zhejiang China. At the tender age of 9, he and his family moved to Taiwan.
Koan-Da met his wife of 55 years, Chin-Chih, through a marriage arrangement meeting. Koan-Da’s father, Chin-Chih’s father, and Chin-Chih all worked at the same sugar processing factory in Matau, Taiwan. Koan-Da was working for a US Aerospace company in Tainan, Taiwan. It was Koan-Da’s father who asked the security guard at the sugar factory to make the introduction to Chin-Chih. They were married on May 12, 1963 when he was 29 years old.
He thought his family would settle in Taiwan, but as fate would have it, Koan-Da’s company opened a subsidiary in the United States and they offered him a position in the new division. Wanting to create a better life for his family, he decided to move with the company and came to America in 1971. He came to the US first and brought his family 3 years later. Eventually, the family settled in Brunswick, GA.
His is the quintessential immigrant story. He left his home, his culture, and his language to move to an unfamiliar country. He left because he believed that America was the land of boundless opportunities. He came to America with $250 in his pocket. With the help and support of his wife Chin-Chih, they saved and grew that money. They became successful entrepreneurs and owned a restaurant and a motel. He loved his family more than anything in this world and everything he did in life was motivated by his desire to ensure that his family was always protected, provided for, and given as many opportunities for success as possible.
Koan-Da departed this life on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 @ 10pm. He was 83 years old. He leaves the family who will cherish his memory: his wife Chin-Chih, his 2 daughters E-Lee and Efee, and his 4 grandchildren, Celestin, Gabriel, Seth, and Madelyn. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation and sincere gratitude the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown during this time of loss. May God Bless and Keep You!
