In 1971 Ding became the Superintendent of Schools in Kuching. Following that position, he became the President of Batu Lintang Teachers College. His next position following the College was the Finance Department Head for the state of Sarawak. In 1978, the Lau family emigrated to the United States of America and landed in Centertown, Kentucky.
