L.H. Johnson, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on December 22, 2010. He was born in Milledgeville, Georgia on August 22, 1922, to L.H. and Bessie Johnson. For 66 years, he was happily married to Charis Knapp Johnson. They met at Mercer University in Macon, fell in love and married soon after graduation. He is survived by his wife, children, Kevin (Sherri) Johnson, Kimberly (Joe) Bruscia, grandchildren Zachry (Sally) Johnson, Abigail (Benjamin) Burgess and Morgan Johnson. L.H. lived a long and productive life, serving his Lord, Jesus Christ, as a Minister of Education and administrator in Baptist churches in several states. He retired from Wieuca Road Baptist Church in Atlanta in 1987 after 11 years of outstanding service. In retirement he continued to be active in serving others, volunteering as an Ombudsman with the Long Term Care division of the Department of Human Resources. He was an active member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church, serving on committees and as Sunday School teacher. His hobby was playing the piano, especially gospel hymns. He and Charis enjoyed traveling, especially to the British Isles. They once rented an apartment in a village outside of London and spent two happy months sightseeing and getting acquainted with the English lifestyle. L.H. was never happier than when he was surrounded by his loving family. He will be sorely missed by them, his fellow church members, and a host of friends - especially his special buddies at the Dekalb Mall walkers group. A memorial service will be held December 26 at 3pm at Clairmont Presbyterian Church, Dr. Tom Pipkin, pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Clairmont Presbyterian Church, 1994 Clairmont Road, Decatur, Ga. 30033. A. S. Turner & Sons
