Larry C. Walker, 71, of Decatur, Georgia passed away peacefully Sunday, July 23rd 2017. Larry was proceeded in death by his mother, Mildred Walker; and his son, Chad Walker. Larry is survived by his Father, Roy Walker; his sisters, Lynn & LaRae; brothers Bob & Lee; his partner of 22 years, Linda McDaniel; his daughter, Tyree McDowell; grandchildren Ellie & Eva McDowell.
Larry was born in Gloster, Georgia on March 26th, 1946 to Roy and Mildred Walker. He attended Decatur High School, graduated in 1964. Larry served in the US Air Force from 1966 until 1972, as military policeman on the front lines of the Vietnam War.
Larry pursued a career as a self-employed general contractor. He retained a passion for woodworking throughout his life.
Larry was an avid climber, with an unquenchable thirst for the great outdoors specifically for hiking, camping and ice-climbing. Larry was a life-long member and selfless volunteer for the Appalachian Trail Club. Additionally, he pursued a lifelong study as a Mason of the Third Degree at the Oglethorpe Decatur Masonic Lodge.
Larry was a dedicated family man known for his infectious smile, his quick wit and his perfectly timed jokes.
A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26th at A.S. Turner& Sons in Decatur from 5pm to 7pm, and a memorial service will be held at Briarcliff United Methodist Church at 2pm on Thursday, July 27th.
Larry suffered from Lewy Body Dementia. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to The Alzheimer’s Association at ACT.ALZ.org/donate or The Wounded Warriors Foundation at support.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
