Laura Murphy

Laura Lee Murphy, 68, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024. Laura was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 17, 1955, to Helen and Ralph Martin. She and her family moved to Atlanta when she was in high school and she graduated from Peachtree High School in Dunwoody, Georgia. She then went on to earn degrees from the University of Georgia and Oglethorpe University (Masters) in Atlanta. Laura taught middle school in DeKalb and Gwinnett Counties for 11 years. She and Chuck Murphy were married on April 14, 1984. Laura was a loving and loved mother to Charlie, who was born in 1991. She loved playing tennis and golf at Druid Hills Golf Club where she met many wonderful friends, who she continued to see right up to the time of her passing. While she enjoyed her Club activities, her true passion was gardening and her gardens. She was a longtime member of the Lullwater Garden Club, where she served on its Board. The Garden Club provided the opportunity for her to share her gardening interests and skills and learn from others in the Druid Hills community. She also volunteered for projects in Druid Hills including the Druid Hills Tour of Homes where she served as chair in 1991. Laura possessed artistic skills and she channeled some of them into creating unique jewelry, which she happily shared with her good friends. Laura is survived by her husband Charles C. Murphy, Jr. ("Chuck"), son, Charles C. Murphy, III ("Charlie") of Decatur, GA and brother, Ralph P. Martin, Jr. of Sandy Springs, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph P. and Helen S. Martin. Interment of her ashes and memorial services will be private. Memorials or contributions may be made to The Lullwater Conservation Garden, Lullwater Garden Club, Inc., P. O.
