Lee Delaney Ganaway, 67, of Dunwoody, Georgia, passed away on April 6, 2012, after a battle with cancer. A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, Lee graduated as a psychology major from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and was employed by Harvard Medical School until she moved to Atlanta in 1968. In Atlanta she worked and studied at Emory University and Georgia State University where she earned degrees in microbiology, clinical microbiology, and a doctorate in molecular biology. Lee had been a resident of Dunwoody since 1994 when she married Nick B. Ganaway. Following her retirement she enjoyed volunteer work at Kingswood United Methodist Church, Children's Health Care of Atlanta, the Fitness Center at Dunwoody Baptist Church, and the Assistance League of Atlanta, where she experienced much fulfillment and many loving friendships and was devoted to its mission. Lee is preceded in death by her parents Leonard J. Delaney and Clara C. Delaney. She leaves behind her loving husband of 18 years, Nick Ganaway, and three beloved stepchildren and their spouses: Ginger and Carl Smith of Midlothian, Texas, John and Deborah Ganaway of Dalton, Georgia, and Julie and Ryan Blanchard of Carlsbad, California. She also leaves behind five beautiful grandchildren who were the delight of her life, Lauren Hale, Noah Smith, Ayden Ganaway, Weston Blanchard and Brooke Blanchard, and a beloved sister-in-law, Patricia Lewis, her husband Troy, and their wonderful family, of Midlothian. Lee is also survived by her beloved family in Massachusetts including her brother and his wife, Stephen and Mary Delaney, niece Margaret Rose Delaney, and numerous cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 10th at Kingswood United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church, 5015 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody, Georgia 30338 or the Assistance League of Atlanta, 3534 Broad Street, Chamblee, Georgia 30341. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory.
