Mrs. Lena Maxey Thompson, 81, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, January 17. She attended Druid Hills High School for both elementary and high school where she won the title ‘Miss Druid Hills.’ Mrs. Thompson graduated from the University of Georgia where she was an active member and officer of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She taught in the DeKalb County School System for 2 years before she elected to stay at home and raise her two children. Mrs. Thompson was a life long member of First Christian Church of Decatur which her father helped build. Her husband, Edward N Thompson, and her loving parents, Clyde and Homer Maxey, preceded her in death. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Gail Thompson Jones, her husband, Randy Jones, grandson Brent Jones, her son, Geri Edward Thompson, his wife, Scarlett Thompson, and granddaughters, Christie and Ginny Thompson. Lena Thompson was known for her gentle and kind ways to all and for being a wonderful caregiver to her parents, husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Funeral services will be held at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 20, at 1p.m. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, January 19, from 5-8pm.
