Leonard Max Vinson

February 19, 1930 — June 20, 2010

Leonard M. Vinson, age 80, passed away on June 20, 2010.  Leonard was born in Colquitt, Georgia to Callie & George Vinson. After graduating as the valedictorian of his class, he moved to Atlanta in 1947 to go to Southern Business College. Upon graduation, he took a job and soon there after enlisted in the Army during the Korean conflict. Leonard was selected for OCS but turned down the offer in order to continue his role as a drill instructor. After his discharge, Leonard was employed as an accountant for a material handling company and then in 1979 he co-founded his own material handling company, Vinson-McDonald.  Leonard was an active civic and non-profit volunteer. Leonard was Poll manager for 30+ years in Dekalb County. ALTA Coordinator for 26 years, ALTA Men’s Vice President and Secretary.  Leonard was an avid golfer and was a member of East Lake Country Club for over 35 years.  He became a member of Smokerise Country Club as well at the Summit Golf Club.  He was loved and respected by many and was known for being a true southern gentleman.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edith Tolliver Vinson, their son Scott and daughter-in law Sharon Vinson, daughter Carol and son-in-law Gregg Brasher, two granddaughters Elizabeth and Jonathon Schulz and Natalie Vinson, Two grandsons Zack & Jake Brasher. Sister, Vada Griffin and nieces and nephews.  Both visitation and the memorial service will be held at Mount Carmel Christian Church on Wednesday June 23, 2010.  Visitation will be from 11:30am until 12:45pm.  The service will begin at 1:00 pm.
