Leroy Pinkerson, Jr; 99, of Decatur, passed away Friday, September 26, 2014. Mr. Pinkerson was born June 9, 1915 in Charleston, SC to LeRoy Pinkerson Sr. and Lillian (Furchgott) Pinkerson. He graduated from The College of Charleston, majoring in Greek Studies, A Naval Veteran of World War II, he served on Eisenhower's staff in London, decoding and delivering communications between Roosevelt and Churchill. He was rescued from the north Atlantic when his ship was torpedoed and sank. He was a pioneer in the frozen food business and was President of American Frozen Food Company and was Southern Frozen Foods Man of the Year in 1974. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor Gamble Pinkerson; his second wife, Lillian Weaver Pinkerson and his daughter, Shelley Lee Hamilton. Survivors include his sister, Jeanne P. Dreyfoos of Atlanta; nephews, William W. Dreyfoos of Atlanta, Dale L. Dreyfoos of Scottsdale, AZ, Andrew Pinkerson of Kennesaw and James Pinkerson of Jacksonville, GA; step-daughters, Carol Davis of Sydney, Australia and Karen Lamberto of San Jose, CA. A special thanks to Ethel Gardner, who cared for LeRoy and Lillian in their home for many years.
