MOORE, Lester -
Lester Moore, Jr., a resident of Decatur, Georgia died on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the age of 85. Lester was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy class of 1946. He served 7 years as an officer in the United States Navy submarine service reaching the rank of Lieutenant. He left the service to raise his family and pursue a 30-year engineering career in the pulp and paper industry. After leaving the paper business, he returned to submarines as chief engineer and consultant for the construction of the submarine base in Kings Bay, Georgia. Lester leaves a wife of 60 years, Barbara Bierly Moore; four children, Marion Kendall, Marietta, Georgia, Merrie Carol Wilner, Jacksonville, Florida, Lester Moore, III, Horqueta, Paraguay, Michael B. Moore, Montpelier, Vermont; and seven grandchildren. Memorial services for Lester will be held Saturday, December 12, at A. S. Turner & Sons chapel, Decatur, Georgia at 4:00 pm. Friends are invited to visit with the family at 3:00 pm until the service begins. Lester’s remains will be inurned at the United States Naval Academy Columbarium with his classmates.
