Lewis Benton Gunter passed away November 12, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. Lewis was born in Goldsboro, NC, grew up in Jacksonville, FL, and lived in Lilburn, GA, for the past 36 years. Lewis attended Lee High School and Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL. He proudly served in the United States Army and United States Air National Guard, and worked for many years in the construction industry in Atlanta and the southeastern United States. He was an avid outdoorsman and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by Kaye Partin Gunter, his wife of 51 years; his son, Michael Gunter and his wife Ashleigh, and their sons, Benton and Evan; his daughter, Kelly Gunter; his sister, Ellen Gunter; his mother-in-law, Estelle Strickland Partin; his nephews, Scott, James, and Greg Partin; and cousins, Nancy Helms Surles, Bryan Rhodes, Emma Lee Gunter Singleton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, CURE Childhood Cancer or American Heart Association. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday November 14, at A.S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur, GA.
