MSG Lewis Carlton Hardin, U. S. Army (retired), 81, of Decatur, died October 27, 2011. Mr. Hardin retired from the U. S. Army in 1969, after an illustrious 20 year career in service to his country as an aviation instructor. He met his future wife, Doris Sorgatz, in Germany shortly after being transferred there as part of the occupational forces following WWII. They were married in 1952 and were stationed at various army post around the world. After retirement, he began a second career as an aviation maintenance instructor at Atlanta Area Technical School, from which he retired after 18 years of teaching. He and his wife have been dedicated and faithful servants of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Columbia Drive in Decatur. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris S. Hardin. The funeral service for Mr. Hardin will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, November 2, in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Minister Charles Frazier, Sr. officiating. Interment, Georgia National Cemetery at 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 3, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Hardin may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Suite 10, 1925 Century Blvd, Atlanta GA 30345. The family will receive friends 6-8 Tuesday evening at A. S. Turner & Sons.
