Mrs. Lillian Anne Grovenstein, 86, of Atlanta, died Thursday, July 30, 2015. A native Atlantan, she was born December 14, 1928, to Alfred and Hannah Enloe. After graduating from Atlanta Girls High School in 1946, she attended Agnes Scott and the University of Georgia, Atlanta Division, where she received a science degree. She trained as a medical technologist at St. Joseph's and worked for a number of physicians at Piedmont and St. Joseph's hospitals and in the former Medical Arts Building.
She attended Druid Hills Presbyterian Church where she met and married Erling Grovenstein, Jr. in 1962. Lillian Anne and Erling are long-time members of Shallowford Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Women of the Church circle leader, Bible moderator and as den mother for the local Cub Scout Pack.
Lillian was a fulltime homemaker and active in the Georgia Tech Faculty Wives Club, Gourmet Club, and bridge club, where she played with her kindergarten classmates and friends. An avid gardener, Lillian Anne was also a member of the American Hemerocallis Society and the Daylily Society of Greater Atlanta, a charter member of the Georgia Hosta Society and president of Briarmoor Garden Club.
Lillian Anne was known for her great recipes, her beautiful needlework and her generous crocheting and knitting skills that she used to craft hats for the homeless. In addition, she was an avid and devoted fan of the Braves and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Lillian Anne is survived by her husband, Erling; her son, Fred Grovenstein of Atlanta and son, John, daughter-in-law Lisa Ray Grovenstein of Lilburn, and grandsons, Jack and Evan Grovenstein of Atlanta. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Branson of Savannah and Lucy Ann Moore of Birmingham, Alabama and numerous cousins and their families including Kathy Saul and husband, Robert; Leslie B. Mullis and husband, Michael; Stevan M. Bullard, all of Atlanta; Kelie Bullard Crowe of Marietta and William Carter Bullard and wife, Maria Liotta of New York City, New York; Fred and Pat Enloe and Deedi Enloe Barker of Decatur, GA; David Enloe of Virginia Beach, VA; Hansell and Olivia Enloe of Canton, NC; Nannette Enloe of White, GA; Cherry and Tommy Enloe and Tommy Wood of Buford, GA; Milton and Sandy Kirkland of Monroe, GA; Alfred Kirkland of Dahlonega, GA; Susan Enloe Keen of Mandeville, LA; and Gillespie and Debbie Kirkland of Dunwoody, GA.
The funeral will be held at 4 pm on Saturday August 8, in the Shallowford Presbyterian Church Chapel with the Reverend Christopher A. Henry officiating. The family will receive friends starting at 3 p.m. in Shallowford's Heritage Hall.
After the service, the family will proceed to Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA., where a brief graveside service will be held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Ministry of Music, Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Road, Atlanta, GA 30345. A. S.
