Lillie Linda Jones

Linda Cole Jones, age 64 of Snellville, died Thursday, December 13, 2012. Linda was born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on April 17, 1948 to Virgil Calvin Cole and Dorothy Cole. She was raised in Decatur, Georgia with her siblings, Joyce, Bobby and Jack. Linda graduated from Decatur High School in 1966, where she was named Ms. Decatur High School. While in high school she discovered one of her life passions, cheerleading. Linda continued her education and cheerleading at DeKalb College before eventually becoming one of the original Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders from 1967 to 1970. The latter two years with the Falcons, she was the team captain. In 1971, Linda married her high school sweetheart and husband of 41 years, Tom Jones. Tom and Linda had two sons, Tommy and Philip Jones. Over the past forty years, Linda had abundant opportunities to continue cheering, as her husband and sons are all career football coaches. At the time of her death, Linda's greatest joy was being Nana to her five granddaughters. She was also was actively involved with the Atlanta Falcons Alumni Cheerleaders and the Atlanta Silver Classix Crew Senior Pro Dance Team. Linda worked as a substitute teacher, a teen board supervisor for Bonnie Bell Cosmetics, and a sales consultant for Honeywell. However, it was in her passion for life and her love for others that truly defines her legacy. Linda's most extraordinary distinctions include being a faithful follower of Jesus, a loving wife, an exceptional mother, a proud grandmother, a genuine friend, and a gifted caretaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Cole; mother, Dorothy Cole; sister, Joyce Tingle; and brother, Jack Cole. She is survived by her husband, Tom Jones; sons, Tommy Jones and Philip Jones; daughters-in-law, Cory Duckworth Jones and Allyson Moor Jones; granddaughters, Avery Jones, Sydney Jones, Naomi Jones, Hannah Jones and Kate Jones. In addition, Linda is also survived by her mother-in-law, Louise Jones, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. A funeral service at First Baptist Church of Decatur is planned for Monday, December 17th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association. The family plans visitation Sunday, December 16th from 5 to 8 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home.
