Lisbet Makonnen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lisbet Makonnen. Lisbet was born in the vicinity of Copenhagen, Denmark. She lived a rich life in several countries before following her husband to Atlanta, GA in 1981. In 2021, Lisbet moved to North Carolina to be close to her daughter and son-in-law.

Lisbet, a nurse by profession, displayed a selfless desire to help people everywhere she went. She was a healer, an avid reader and an expert knitter. She was also the family historian and was happy to share her vast knowledge of the world. If you were fortunate, you walked away with an interesting story and a beautiful pair of warm, knitted socks. Lisbet will be greatly missed for her humor, creativity, and generous spirit.

Lisbet is survived by her biological and "adopted" children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

A celebration of Lisbet's life will be held on January 6th, 2025, at the AS Turner Funeral Home, Decatur, GA. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may wish to donate to The Michael J. Fox Foundation https://www.michaeljfox.org/ or The Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
