Lois A. Miller

September 17, 1926 — March 24, 2022


Lois Yvonne Adams Stipick Miller, age 95, went to be with her Lord on March 24, 2022. Born on September 17, 1926, in Deland, Florida, she was the eldest child of Eural Eugene E. Adams and Emma Eugenia Stallings Adams.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: Stanley Frank Stipick and John Smith Miller, her sister Elizabeth Sue Chinnock, and her brother Eural Eugene Adams. She is survived by her sister Marcia Adams Fioravanti, and her children Pamela Sue Berry, Michael Adams Stipick (Jennifer) and Mary Jane Anderson (Michael) and her grandchildren Patricia A. Berry, Patrick Berry (Steffi) and Katherine Rogers (Eric), Christopher Anderson (Abigail Howd), Victoria Hunter (Morgan), and George Stipick (Hillary). Also, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, beloved cousins Wayne and Colleen Thrailkill and dear friend Ray Chapman.


Her early education was in Deland, Florida, although she graduated from Orlando High School with a semester of credits from Orlando Junior College. She attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida where she was a Phi Mu. She married Lt. Stanley Frank Stipick in July 1945 and later completed her bachelor’s degree with honors at Oglethorpe University and her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Georgia State University.


She taught preschool and kindergarten at Decatur First Baptist Church and Clairmont Hills Baptist Church. In 1966 she joined the faculty at Sagamore Hills Elementary School in Dekalb County where she taught first grade and later, kindergarten. She was a charter member of Briarcliff Baptist Church where she taught in the children’s department for many years.


After Stan passed away, she married John Smith Miller in June 1980, and together they enjoyed golf, travel, and hosting parties for their friends.  She was active both socially and in the education field. She was a life member of Druid Hills Golf Club playing bridge regularly with long-time friends and in younger days playing golf.   She held offices in different organizations. She was past president of Decatur Junior Women’s Club; past treasurer of Concerto, an Atlanta Symphony support group; past president of the Dekalb Association of Early Childhood Education; and active in the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honorary teaching society.


A funeral service will be held Monday, April 11, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home.  Interment will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. She loved life, her family, her friends, and her church. She touched so many lives in such a positive way and will be deeply missed by all that knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mayo Clinic in her memory.
