Lois Mccracken Crowley

Lois McCracken Crowley, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, after a brief illness.  

Lois was born in Haywood County, North Carolina to the late William Claude and Lenora Best McCracken.  She moved to Atlanta in 1951 where she attended business school while living with her uncle and aunt, Linton and Madelyn McCracken, and their 3 sons.  She met her husband, Billy Crowley, and they made Decatur, Georgia their home.  Lois was a stay-at-home mother for several years, and she dedicated her time to raising their daughters, Lisa and Connie.  She later returned to the workforce and worked as a bookkeeper for Petro Wash, Inc. for many years.  

Lois thoroughly enjoyed spending time at her childhood home, surrounded by family members, in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.  Family was always very important to her, and she always showed her selfless love and support for them. She also enjoyed gardening, reading (especially her AJC), eating ice cream, and watching birds and wildlife.

In addition to parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. (Billy) Crowley Jr.; two brothers, Louis and Spencer McCracken; and a sister, Mary Sue Balentine.  

Lois is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Peek and Connie (Tony) Vazquez; her grandchildren, who she greatly adored, Kimberly Peek and Alex Niebieski (Kenzie); great-grandson, Campbell Niebieski; sisters, Emelyn Shook and Ruth Chambers; a brother, Ralph McCracken; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. at the chapel at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, Georgia, with the Reverend Heath Davis, Lois’ great-nephew, officiating.  Visitation with the family will begin an hour before the service.  Burial will follow at Hillandale Memorial Gardens in Lithonia, Georgia.
