Lorena Lea “Lori” Phillips, 60, lost her battle with cancer on August 2, 2017 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Lori fought the battle with amazing faith, courage, grace, and even humor, with her champion (ex-husband and current fiancé) Lon Cotton at her side. Lori is also survived by her father, Finley William “Bill” Phillips (Jewell) of Owensboro, KY, mother, Norma Modena Roberts of Owensboro, KY, sister, Joan Phillips “Joni” Burchett (Noble) of Georgetown, KY, nephew, Stuart Andrew “Drew” Angus (Alexa) of Newport, KY, her beloved cats, Kimmie and Winky, and numerous close friends. Lori left Atlanta long enough to receive her Associate Degree in Medical Health Science from Owensboro Community and Technical College in 2013. She returned to Georgia to work at Atlanta Dermatology & Surgery as a medical assistant until she became ill. Lori ran marathons in Alaska and Disney World, scuba dived in Tahiti and Maui, sky-dived, water-skied… she lived and loved with gusto. She made the world a better place with her bright smile, her down-to-earth sweet spirit, and her fabulous sense of humor. Heaven will be more fun with her in it! A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Turner & Sons on N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Breakthru House, 1866 Eastfield St., Decatur, GA 30032.
