Louis A. Christo, 85, passed away on Sunday April 15, 2012. He was born in Albany, GA, the son of Anastasios P. Christo and Antonia Moundreas Christo. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Athens Christo; his son Demetrios (Jimmy) Christo of San Diego, CA; his daughter Catherine Christo Herbst of Atlanta, his sister, Eugenia (Jeanie) Christo Nations; 2 grand-children and several nieces and nephews. He attended Albany High School where he became a legend in his own right by excelling in both football and basketball. He led Albany High School to win the state championship in 1943-44 and was inducted into the Albany Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. He was awarded a football scholarship to attend the University of Georgia and while a student he played both football and basketball. While at UGA he served as director of the Student Union as well as serving as an assistant offensive line coach for the Georgia Bulldogs. After UGA he pursued a Masters Degree in Physical Education from New York University. Louis was stationed in Korea while serving in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He was employed at Hoffman-LaRoche Laboratories where he worked for 30 years as a sales representative. During his tenure at Roche Laboratories, he developed many interpersonal relationships with many of the members of the Atlanta area medical community and was well respected by both doctors he called upon and his colleagues. He was recognized on several occasions for his outstanding work performance and achievements. In life, Louis was an avid sports fan, especially of football and basketball. He was a lover of the arts and travel, taking his family with him on many trips visiting places throughout the USA and Europe. He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Community of Atlanta Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities), Attn: William Brown, 110 West Rd; Suite 360, Baltimore, MD, 21204. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 19 at 11am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Clairmont Rd. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service to be held at 6:30 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
