Louis H. Cone

September 14, 1920 — July 28, 2009

Louis H. Cone of Tucker, GA, age 88, passed peacefully at his home on July 28th.   He was born on Sept. 14th, 1920, youngest of 11 children, to Mary Etta Martin Cone and Paul Harrison Cone.  He was raised in Bulloch County.  In 1942 he joined the Air Force, where he served as a Captain in the 3rd Chinese American Composite Group in various provinces of China.  In 1945 he married the love of his life, Maybess “Sue” Murphy of Swainsboro, GA and they settled in Atlanta.  After earning his degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, he joined Fischer Body and then General Motors Corporation where he worked as an engineer for over 30 years.  He is survived by his wife Sue Cone, daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Barnett and Dr. Michael Barnett, daughter Elizabeth Cone, son Robert Cone, daughter-in-law Nancy Cone, grandchildren Allison Ringer and husband Ryan Ringer, Rachel Cone, Colin Barnett and Gray Barnett as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by his son, Dr. Paul H. Cone and daughter-in-law Karen Cone.  Throughout his life, he enjoyed returning to Bulloch County to garden, fish, hunt and enjoy the outdoors.    He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker who never tired of creating treasures for his children and grandchildren.  He loved photography capturing pictures of hummingbirds in mid-flight as well as other beautiful subjects.  He was a man of great integrity and gentle nature who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  A memorial service will be held on August 8th at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Tucker.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atlanta Hospice or the charity of your choice.
