Louise Hargett

September 29, 1917 — March 26, 2005

Louise Bayard Clark Hargett died on March 26, 2005 in Atlanta, GA of complications related to her eight year affliction with Alzheimer's Disease.  Louise was born September 29, 1917 in Wadesboro, NC and was 87 years of age at her death.  She was the daughter of Alexander Bayard Clark and Lura Steele Stanback Clark.  Her family in America reaching back to the 1600's included many prominent statesmen, clergymen, and businessmen and she enjoyed genealogy as a serious hobby.  She was married February 1, 1941 and was the faithful wife of the late William Oliver Hargett for 53 years, until his death September 13, 1994.   Louise was a dedicated health care provider to her husband for 18 years after his stroke.  Louise and William moved from Washington, DC to Atlanta in 1942, and they resided in Avondale Estates, GA from 1950 until his death.  Louise and her husband both attended George Washington University, Washington, DC and while there Louise was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.   In Atlanta, Louise worked for many years as a secretary to the National Director of Alpha Delta Pi.  Over the years Louise became a very accomplished sculptor and produced in both stone and cast metal.  She also became an avid collector of fine dolls.  Louise is survived by her only child, William Bayard Hargett and 2 grandchildren from her son and the late Patricia Ann Aycock Hargett.  Gillian Bayard Hargett Mauldin is a graduate student at the Portfolio Center in Atlanta.  William Bayard Craig Hargett is an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia.  Louise is also survived by her sister, Ann Maholick, and her sisters-in-law, Jackie Clark, Betty Clark, and Dorothy Jumper. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 2:30 PM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 W. Peachtree St., N.W., Atlanta, GA.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Louise's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30345. A. S. Turner & Sons
