Mrs. Louise H. Stewart died at the age of 94 on July 23, 2010 at Genesis Healthcare Center in Annapolis, MD. She has lived in Annapolis for ten years. She was born July 14, 1916 to Marion M. and Gussie J. Haynes in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Stewart, a native of Atlanta, was a lifetime advocate for the mentally disabled.
Her career spanned decades, first as Executive Director of the Georgia Association for Retarded Citizens, and retiring as the Coordinator of Admissions at Brook Run, formerly the Georgia Retardation Center. Her work was inspired by her son George “Dan” Stewart, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne S. Weissinger and son-in-law Thomas R. Weissinger, two grandchildren, Thomas R. Weissinger II (Karen) and Georgianna “Ganna” L. Weissinger, and two great-grandchildren, all of Annapolis, MD. She was pre-deceased by her former husband, George D. Stewart and her son George “Dan” Stewart.
