Louise Sims

April 20, 1907 — December 19, 2009

Louise Sims, 102, of Decatur, GA passed away on December 19, 2009 at VistaCare Hospice at Wesley Woods in Atlanta. Prior to her final illness, she resided at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living in Decatur.  Miss Sims was born on April 20, 1907 in Gwinnett, County,  GA. Her parents were Mary Beulah Sims and Henry Hill Sims. She was the oldest of 11 children. Miss Sims remained single her entire life and dedicated herself to loving and caring for her mother, father, brothers and sisters and their families. Her long life allowed her to enjoy three generations of nieces and nephews and she rejoiced in every success and reached out during times of struggle. She was incredibly proud of the accomplishments of her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered with fondness by all who knew her. Miss Sims received her teaching certificate from Georgia Normal and Technical College in Athens, GA. She later received her Masters in Education from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. She began her teaching career in a one room school house located on her father’s farm in Oglethorpe County, GA where she taught many of her younger brothers and sisters and the children in the local community. The majority of her teaching career was spent at Fernbank Elementary School in DeKalb County, GA. She retired in 1971.  Miss Sims was a member of the North Decatur United Methodist Church in Decatur. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Mary Evelyn Sims Wilson of Decatur and Marguerite Sims Goldsmith of Lilburn; and 18 nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jeanette Sims, Virginia Sims Deer and Fannie Mae Sims Walker; and her brothers, John Hill Sims, Noah Pirkle Sims, Willis A. Sims, Gladstone Sims and Alfred Sims. Visitation will be Monday, December 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22nd at A. S. Turner & Sons. A grave side service will be held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in Shadowlawn Cemetery in Lawrenceville, GA.
