Lowry A. (Larry) Adkins, Jr.

Lowry A. (Larry) Adkins, 84, of Atlanta passed away August 29, 2012. He was born July 19, 1928 in Spartanburg, SC but grew up in Augusta, GA. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific from 1946 until 1949. He was an aeronautical engineer at Lockheed Georgia for 38 years. In retirement he volunteered his services to numerous charitable organizations. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Catherine Adkins; sons; Tommy Adkins of Alpharetta, GA and Howard Adkins of Milton FL; daughter, Cherie Adkins Morris of Washington, GA; grandchildren, Brett Adkins of Crested Butte, CO and Lacey Adkins Feldberg of Woodstock, GA; brothers, Charles Adkins of Overland Park, KS, Frank Adkins of Ooltewah, TN and sister, Kathryn Adkins Eward of Melbourne, FL. Also surviving are numerous wonderful nieces, nephews, friends and animals. The memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Dean Ropp officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Journey Healthcare, 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. Suite 150, Atlanta, GA 30338 and Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 pm until the service hour at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
