Lucile Brookshaw passed away on May 24 after a long illness. She was born on July 19, 1933 to her late parents, V.B. "Pat" Brookshaw and Alice Cornell Brookshaw. Having grown up in Atlanta, Lucile graduated from Henry Grady High School. Four years later, she received her Degree from UGA, although she later became a big fan of Georgia Tech football and basketball teams.
For 70 years, Lucile was a dedicated member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she became life long friends with many of the church members. She loved going to Tybee with family and friends. She gave of herself in many ways.
For 10 years she worked with the Federal Reserve. She then had a successful career with the State of Georgia Health Planning Department, where she gathered statistics regarding the need for hospitals and nursing homes in Georgia.
"Lucy"" is survived by, her only sister, Rosalie North Castleberry, her nieces and nephews, Loralie Arnold, Ruth Jackson, Valjean "Chip" Brookshaw (Bonnie), and Brian Brookshaw (Jennifer). Great niece and nephews, Amanda Arnold-Long (Kevin), Christopher Brookshaw, Gordon Brookshaw, Tyler Jackson, Brandon Jackson, Valjean (Reid) Brookshaw IV, and Lainey Brookshaw. She is also survived by her best friend for 50 years, Marty Childs.
In addition to her parents, those who preceded her in death were her only brother, Valjean "Gene" Brookshaw and nephew, Loren "Champ" Young.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Lucile's life will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 2:30, at Grace United Methodist Church, 458 Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30308. Minister is Reverend Stacey Rushings. Following the service will be a reception where family and friends will receive guests. A private burial for intown relatives and close friends will be at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be made to Grace United Methodist Church, marked "Sue Goddard Music Fund" or the Alzheimer's Association. A.S.
