Jean Hicks Pitts, of Decatur, died February 14, 2012. She was born January 5, 1915 in Baltimore and was the daughter of Aline Crowl and Thomas Paret Hicks. The family lived in Washington, DC until 1920 when they moved to Atlanta. She attended Druid Hills High School for 2 years and graduated from North Avenue Presbyterian School in 1932. She attended Agnes Scott College for 2 years and graduated from Emory University in 1936, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and The Emory Players. She taught high school for 1 year in Jefferson, GA and the 4th grade for 5 years at Druid Hills Elementary School. Later she worked at the Decatur Branch of the First National Bank. She was a member of the Paty Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and Decatur First United Methodist Church. Her husband Malcolm Pitts preceded her in death December, 1994. She is survived by three sons, David Pitts, Haddock, GA, Thomas Pitts, Decatur, GA and Allen Pitts, Edgewater, MD; one granddaughter, Jessica Pitts of Gordon, GA. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, February 18th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons. Interment, Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory.
