Lucy Marie Shadoan Floyd

May 30, 1918 — September 7, 2005

Mrs. Lucy Floyd died at home, Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 1:45 P.m. surrounded by her animals, family and friends. Lucy Marie Shadoan was born May 30, 1918, as President Wilson declared a national day of prayer on that Memorial Day to end World War I. She was the third child born to Elizabeth Woodson & Oscar Shadoan in Somerset, Kentucky. Her parents as well as all four of her siblings have gone before as has her loving husband of sixty two years, Campbell, and her precious eldest son, Darryl. Lucy spent her youth on a farm in Kentucky and the family has wonderful memories of visiting Granny and Oker on the farm riding horses and playing in the large creek with mint growing all around it. She attended Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Home Economics. ?Lucy left college in her third year to marry Campbell, a young engineer?; a family saying goes and she stayed home to bring up her four children.  The family moved to the Atlanta area for her husband to accept a position with Delta Airlines.  Lucy was active in the Garden Club and volunteered many years along with her husband at Christian City.  Surviving are her three children, Jim Floyd, his wife, Katie and their two children Cam and Cal of Cary, NC; Dinah Toro, her husband Claude and their children, Leslie and Christian of Birmingham, AL; Candice Howland, her husband Philip and two children David, his wife Tina, and Josh of Pine Lake, GA.  She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Jessica Floyd of Lexington, KY; many friends and fifteen nieces and nephews; dog, Betty, who will miss her pretty face, quick sense of humor and sensitive nature. At her requests, there will be a graveside service Friday, September 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of your choice to conserve our environment, help our animal friends, or to serve mankind, especially the hurricane Katrina victims.  A.
