Luther William Crews

February 28, 1922 — March 29, 2013

Dr. Luther William Crews left us on Friday, March 29, 2013, surrounded by his large, loving family. Bill was born February 28, 1922 in Morris, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Norma Conley Crews, their children, William Carey, (Pam), Mary Ida Worthen, (Lynn) and Daniel Crews. The eleven grandchildren are Philip Worthen, Timothy Crews-Anderson, Ryan, Mary Katherine, Bill, and Anna Crews, Carey Crews Allison, Armando Crews, Keisa Davisson, Cameron and Alissa Crews. The great-grandchildren are Armando Crews, Caroline and Will Worthen, Brian, Anna Katherine, and Scarlett Allison, Mariah and Brandon Crews, Abby and Mattie Crews-Anderson, Sahalee and Dedan Davisson. Bill is also survived by his youngest brother, Jim, of Pauls Valley, OK. He was preceded in death by grandson Daniel Lindsey Crews. Grandpa Will be remembered forever for his great ability to convey love. He had an amazing ability to spread love to everyone he ever met. He had a long career as a social worker in Christian Social Ministries and community mental health as the first center director of mental health at DeKalb General Hospital and counselor at South DeKalb Mental Health. He worked for many years with the American Indians in Arizona and Kansas. After retirement he became a prolific writer of stories of the West and children's books dedicated to grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although he was a great thinker and philosopher and had a great sense of humor, he was beloved by his friends and family as our cowboy at heart. He will live in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday March 31st in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Sunday at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
