M. Virginia Tuggle, M.D., of Decatur, GA died peacefully at home Saturday morning, May 28, 2016. Even though not well for some time, she remained remarkably strong in her faith in God and until a few months back was always "splendid".
Born in Abbeville, S. C. on November 23, 1921, Dr. Tuggle was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Annie Mae Elliott Tuggle. Moving to Atlanta, GA, she attended Atlanta Girls High School and Agnes Scott College. She received her Medical Degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Following graduation she enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving from 1949-1952 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, PA as Medical Officer and Medical Watch Officer. She returned to Decatur, finishing residency training in internal medicine and cardiology at St. Joseph's Infirmary and Crawford Long Hospital. She then held a teaching position at Gidding Cardiology Clinic for ten years and Grady Memorial Hospital Cardiac Clinic for five years. Dr. Tuggle was a faithful member of Decatur Presbyterian Church 60 plus years, often saying how she loved her Church. She practiced internal medicine and cardiology in Decatur from 1954 until retirement in 2003. All her patients were special and she loved the Practice of Medicine.
A memorial service will be held at Decatur Presbyterian Church (in the Sanctuary) 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Visitation will follow at the church.
