Miss Mabel Frances White died recently in Atlanta. Born February 24, 1907, in Villa Rica, Georgia in Carroll County, she graduated from LaGrange College where she studied piano, English, and French. She returned to college and earned a BA degree in music. She also sang in the college trio and was an accompanist for college performances. She did graduate work at Northwestern University in music and speech, studied voice at the American Conservatory of Music at the University of Chicago and was a member of the Sherwood Music School Faculty. Later, she earned a Master's degree from the University of Georgia as a Reading Specialist.  Miss White had a distinguished career in education, teaching. students at all levels from kindergarten to college in subjects including public school music, piano, speech, and drama, and serving as Director of Music for one year at Young Harris College. In 1957, she joined the DeKalb County School System, where she taught at Glen Haven Elementary School. She carried out a very active music program there, and was awarded the Freedom Foundation Medal. She held offices in the American Childhood Association, the DeKalb Education Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma National Education Honorary where she served as music chairperson at local and state levels. She shared her talents with church and community, serving as Choir Director and organist in several churches and playing for Kiwanis, Rotary, and Civitan club meetings from local to international levels. She was a member of Glenn Memorial Methodist Church, of its Chancel Choir, and of the Judson B. Ward class for which she served as pianist far 20 years. She was an enthusiastic traveler. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
