Mack Edwin Ratterree died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 as a result of complications due to cancer. Mack was born July 10, 1924 in Paulding County Georgia, the beloved son of Effie and John Ratterree. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later graduated from West Georgia College. Mack served on the Atlanta Police Department for seven years. He then worked as an Air Traffic Controller at Fulton County Airport and retired with 27 years of service with the Federal Aviation Administration. Mack was a long-time member of the Christian Forum Sunday School Class and Briarlake Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Laura Akins Ratterree; children, Susan (and Bob) Withers, Steve (and Jan) Ratterree; grandchildren, 1st Lt. Robert (and Erika) Withers, Jr. and Andrea (and David) Aenchbacher; and great grandson, Jason Aenchbacher. All of his family was blessed by having him as a son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of A.S. Turner and Son, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia with Rev. Larry Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour preceding the service. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery.
