Mae Berkeley Gregory

April 19, 1918 — March 26, 2013

Mae Hawkins Gregory of Dekalb County died March 26, 2013. Born in Lynchburg, Va. April 19, 1918, Mae was a graduate of William and Mary College. She married Edward W. Gregory in 1941, and they moved to Georgia in 1953. Mr. Gregory preceded her in death in 1987. Mae served as president of the United Methodist Women of the Druid Hills United Methodist Church for 10 years, served as president of that church's Quillian Sunday School Class, and served as president of the Brassettes, the auxiliary of Yaarab Shrine Band. Mae is survived by: her son Edward Sheffey Gregory II, his wife Julia, and their children Maxine Mae and Edward Sheffey Gregory III of Chattanooga, Tenn.; her son Stephen Berkeley Gregory and his wife Maria of Chicago, IL.; her sister Sarah Hewlett of Lynchburg, Va.; and by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Turner Funeral Home (2773 N. Decatur Road) on Thursday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be at Druid Hills United Methodist Church on Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. David Allen Grady and Rev. Dr. Rex Kaney conducting the service. Internment will be at the Floral Hills Memory Garden. Memorials in the name of Mae Gregory may be made to the food pantry of Druid Hills United Methodist Church or to the Memorial Committee of Druid Hills United Methodist Church (1200 Ponce de Leon Ave., Atlanta, Ga. 30306) or to the charity of one's choice.
