Major Marleine Mills was one of seven children born to Pasteur and Madame Andrea Joseph in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Major Marleine received Christ at an early age in her father's Church. Around the age of ten she was invited to The Salvation Army Sunday School by a friend. She was welcomed by name by the Sunday School Teacher and felt like she belonged and never left. Marleine became a Junior Soldier and on graduation from high school was one of the first teachers at Armee du Salut College Verena in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In 1970 she entered The Salvation Army Training College in Kingston, Jamaica as a member of the Lightbringers Session of Cadets. Major Marleine received her education in Haiti and received higher education in Kingston, Jamaica while she attended The Salvation Army Training College. She later pursued courses at the University of the West Indies related to her ministry in SA Children's Homes. Major Marleine was commissioned to ministry as a Salvation Army Officer in June 1972. She had several appointments in Jamaica and Curacao as a single Officer. Major Marleine met Major Osbourne Mills while working in Jamaica. They were married in September 23, 1978. This union was blessed with two sons, Andrea and Samuel. From 1978 to 1989, the Mills served in appointments at The Salvation Army Workshop for the Handicapped (Sawhide) in Jamaica, the Rae Town Corps Community Center in Eastern Jamaica Division. From 1989 to 1999, they served as Local Officers at The Salvation Army Miami Edison Corps. In 1999, the Mills returned to Officership as Corps Officers at the Nashville Magness Corps: and then in 2004, the Chattanooga Citadel Corps. In June 2007, they were appointed to lead the New Orleans Citadel Corps. She was promoted to Glory in the early hours of Thursday, February 28, 2008. Major Marleine is well loved in New Orleans. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her generous motherly hugs, hello's, backrubs, and wise council. She was a loving mother, big sister, and Pastor to all. Major Marleine Mills leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her husband, Major Osbourne Mills; two devoted sons, Andrea and Samuel; her mother, Elize Bijoux Joseph; 2 sisters; and 2 brothers; a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. She will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched during her Christian journey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 10:00 am at the Salvation Army Temple Corps. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made the Salvation Army Work in Haiti.
