Major Teresa Mcgill Tanner

Major Teresa L. Tanner was born July 8, 1948 in Ft. Myers, Florida.  Teresa faithfully served as an officer in The Salvation Army for 33 years along with her loving husband, Major Bert Tanner.  Together they served in Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, Washington, D.C., Jacksonville, Florida and Sarasota, Florida.  Major Teresa Tanner’s last appointment was as the Territorial Women’s Auxiliary Secretary in Atlanta, Georgia. Teresa was Promoted to Glory on February 14, 2010 from her home in Grayson, Georgia.

This much loved lady leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Major Bert Tanner of Grayson, Georgia, three daughters, Tera Williams of Augusta, Georgia, Captain Tasha Tanner of Danville, Virginia, and Captain Tavia Williams of Miami, Florida, one son, Berten Lee Tanner of Grayson, Georgia.  She was blessed with five grandchildren: Brandon Tanner, Brittany Tanner, Ian Williams, Tanner Williams, and Zane Tanner and one great-grandchild: Emmalee Williams as well as sons- in-law Mark Williams, Captain Allen Tanner, & Captain Bruce Williams.  Brothers and sisters include Patricia Barley of Ft. Myers, Florida, Gerald McGill of Cape Coral, Florida, Major Hellon Merrifield of Estero, Florida, Joseph McGill of Franklin, North Carolina, and Major Donna Smith of Tampa, Florida.  She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and treasured friends.

  Services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army Atlanta Temple Corps at 2090 North Druid Hills Road NE.  A family visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Westview Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by A.S. Turner and Sons.
