With family present, Margaret Ann Yarbrough Bailey peacefully passed away from heart issues on February 12, 2024.
Margaret was born August 8, 1947 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the daughter of Mary Greene Yarbrough and Lonnie Stewart Yarbrough. Mary and Lonnie married shortly after Lonnie served overseas in World War II. Shortly after Margaret's birth, the family moved to the Atlanta area. Margaret grew up in Kirkwood and Clarkston, GA, and proudly considered herself a lifelong Atlanta resident. After graduating from Clarkston High School in 1965, she worked at J.C. Penny's, Gulf Oil, and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office while living in Snellville, GA and then Tucker, GA.
Margaret is widely remembered for being loving, strong, kind, generous, and funny. After her divorce from the late Milton Bailey, she devoted her life to raising her two children, and later, her two grandchildren. Her endearing qualities were many, and included her dry sense of humor, a razor-sharp wit, infectious laugh, and an abiding love of Elvis. She is, and will always be, deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is a Christian and was raised in a Baptist household. Towards the end of her life, she renewed her faith and joined Rehoboth Baptist Church. One of her final wishes was to have a Christian service.
Margaret is survived by her children Matthew Bailey, his wife Forrest Jenkins, and Melanie Wells and her fiancé Jason Burns; grandchildren Dalton Wells and Jordan Wells; brother David Yarbrough, his wife Cheryl, niece Cristy Yarbrough Walden and her husband Richard Walden, and great-niece Annabelle Walden.
Services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia. Visitation will start at 12:00 PM with funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, pleas make contributions to Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker, Georgia.
