Margaret Browder Reese Ellis passed away peacefully on February 11, 2012, surrounded by family. She was born on July 8, 1914, to Arthur Rawlings and Beulah (Johnson) Browder in Brunswick Co., VA, and reared in Lawrenceville, VA. She graduated from Radford University and married her college sweetheart Frederick Otis Reese in 1937. They resided in Ohio and Louisiana before his employment with Atlantic Steel Co. which brought them to Atlanta. They were charter members of Northside United Methodist Church. After his death in 1955 she taught at The Heiskell School until her marriage in 1963 to John Bowden Ellis, Jr. who predeceased her in 2001. In addition to volunteering she was a member of P.E.O. Chapter G, Georgia, The Georgia Trust, Pine Tree Garden Club and The Atlanta Yacht Club. She is survived by her children, Frederick Otis Reese, Jr. (Gretchen), Mary Rawlings Reese, James Sylvanus Reese and John Bowden Ellis, III (Joy) and grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Reese, David Frederick Reese (Christen), John Rawlings Reese, Molly Virginia Ellis and John Bowden Ellis, IV. Her sister, Agnes Browder Jones (Hamilton) and brother Raymond Johnson Browder (Barbara) predeceased her. Additional survivors include sisters-in-law, Evangeline Reese Doyle and Dorothy Gassett Ellis, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Northside United Methodist church on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 3 p.m. with a reception immediately following. A private burial will follow in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside United Methodist Church Memorial Garden, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, The Georgia Trust, The Atlanta Opera or a charity of your choice.
